Thanks to the Internet and websites like Amazon and Barnes & Noble, there are so many options for the beginning writer today. I will be self-publishing my first novel through Amazon’s Kindle platform first. So, what a publisher would normally do for an author, I’ll have to do myself. It’s an immense amount of sustained work, akin to the writing itself, but each part isn’t intrinsically difficult. I choose to do it myself in order to get my work out there and avoid the submission/rejection dead zone dance. If a publisher should take a shine to my work at a later date, that door is still open. The process is not fast, and some may argue that it takes just as long, if you take all the necessary steps and avoid shortcuts. I plan to start as I mean to finish.
