Friday marked my last day of employment. I quit two weeks ago to pursue writing full time. 🙂 Naturally, I had to celebrate.
And what better way to celebrate than to offer my book Tied for free for the next three days (starting Monday at midnight). Some might remember the abysmal promotion I did back in May. I didn’t know what I was doing. I was unprepared. In the end, less than 100 people downloaded my book over two days. That seriously sucked.
In the past two months, I have refocused and learned a great deal about Facebook advertising and online book marketing. This free promotion will also be a bit of an experiment, since I will only be advertising on Facebook. Previously I had Twitter campaigns, Facebook campaigns, Reddit campaigns. It was a lot of work for little reward and akin to trying to hit a bulls-eye with a shotgun at 100 yards. And truthfully, it was a lot like spamming my followers. I hated doing it.
I will be taking my book out of KDP Select at the end of June (the reason why I’ll save for another post). I had three free promotion days left, so I decided to use those three days up in conjunction with a targeted Facebook ad. I’ll be spending a modest $10/day and I have selected a specific audience that I think might enjoy my book, narrowing the ad’s potential reach from 230 million to 190,000. Talk about laser-like focus.
My goal is to beat 85 downloads. I’ll check back after the promotion is over.
