I just received my first draft manuscript for Snipped back from my editor. Woot! I’m just about to leap into the changes. I plan to have the book on pre-order as soon as possible and released in March 2018.
Snipped is my fourth book, and it continues my exploration of different genres. This time, I’m trying my hand at what one might call a romantic comedy, but it’s more targeted at men rather than women. Think 40 Year Old Virgin and that’s the vibe I’m going for. Instead of chick lit, Snipped falls into a sub-genre known as lad lit, men lit and dick lit. There are many authors who write in the lad lit space, such as Nick Hornby (High Fidelity, affiliate link), Mike Gayle (Seeing Other People, affiliate link) and Nick Spalding (Love From Both Sides, affiliate link).
I’m well aware that genre-hopping probably annoys my readers, but I think it’s a good exercise to identify which kind of stories I am able to write well, especially early in my writing career. I’ll leave it to the readers to tell me which genres to pursue, based on sales and reviews/feedback. As a reader, I try to keep my mind open and will read most anything, although I haven’t cracked fantasy or science fiction yet. I prefer contemporary stories, but if you’d like to suggest something, I take a boo at it.
I’m sorting out edits and finalizing cover details now, so watch for the Snipped pre-order soon!
