While my Vermin is with my editor, I was going to work on my cover. Since that would take a week at most, I decided to change the plan and begin my third book. Get the writing ball rolling. Maintain momentum.
The story surrounds a family of four and how a diagnosis of cancer changes their lives. It is my most personal work so far, and as a result, it will be more difficult to write. I can attest that writing about super intelligent mutant rats is easier than writing about deep human experience.
The story is inspired by events in my own life, and that makes the process of writing it down all the more difficult. I’ll need to relive it to write it. The challenge for me will be making sure the story isn’t overly sentimental or melodramatic, while still remaining heartfelt.
I’ve already got a good start, and am about one-eighth through the first draft. When Vermin comes back, I’ll have to switch gears again, but I’l be that much further ahead.
